Hontomo Book Discussion Group

Hontomo is a community outreach effort that engages people in lively discussions about books written by Japanese or Japanese American authors or books related to Japan, Japanese topics or characters. The word "Hontomo" is short for "Book Friend" (Hon = "Book" + Tomodachi = "Friend"). The program began in 2002 with the first book "Farewell to Manzanar". Since then, the group has read and discussed over 50 books, with several authors invited to join discussions.

The Book Discussion Group is not limited to JASWA members. The group typically meets in spring and fall, with meetings held at someone's house or at a designated location.
Suggestions for books are welcome, and participants will vote on what they want to read. If you are interested in being added to the mailing list, please contact Izumi Noda Mueller.
